Welcome To The World Of Black Wellness

aroundthewaynamaste

Welcome to my first blog post! I am excited for this journey of discovery, of wellness, and everything in between. When I first went on maternity leave I thought I could juggle being a new mommy of two and my other baby, my start up business. But soon, I realized I would have to adjust, and get creative about how to continue to be present and active in both my business and motherhood. Instead of in-person services that I typically offer, such as Reiki, I needed to think of ways I can continue to provide a service and reach the community all in one. So here I am! Blogging my life experiences away. I want this to be as eclectic as my little chaotic life is, filled with authentic experiences of my day to day life as a Holistic Wellness Nurse Practitioner and a full time mother. In addition, I want it to be a resource for those in the Black community, who may curious about delving into the wellness space, or interested in sustainable fashions, or wondering how to live a toxin free life. So if that sounds like you, I’d like you to follow along, check my website out, and stay up to date on Around The Way Namaste.

Let me back up a second, I guess I should introduce myself, my name is Karlyn, I am originally from the DMV, but moved to NY. I am a practicing Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. I started my holistic nurse journey quite a few years ago when I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, where I had a specialty in Holistic Nursing. It was there, that lit my passion for holistic nursing, combining traditional and modern medicine practices. But the more I started studying and practicing in these wellness spaces, I saw less and less people that looked like me. In these spaces, I didn't always feel welcomed or that I could relate to their experiences, and I didn’t know anyone in my personal life that had similar interests. And boom! There came the thought to build Around The Way Namaste, a safe space for the Black community and all things wellness.

Like Erykah Badu says, "Now keep in mind that I’m an artist, and I'm sensitive about my stuff". So be kind as you follow along on this journey.
